Old Lady Emerson

Just this last week or so, Emmie's been making a new face; she bites her bottom lip and makes her lips real thin. We've been calling it her "old lady face," and thought we should share a couple of the pictures:

Here's Emmie on her jumper, making her silly face.

Here's old lady Emerson outside, enjoying a balmy day at the park.

We weren't really sure what Emmie was trying to accomplish with these faces at first, but over the course of about three days she went from making these faces to saying "Ma", "Mo", and "Me" sounds, so I guess it's all part of the process. We can't wait to see what silly faces she'll make before she can say something else :)

Basket full of Emmie

You may have noticed that we've changed the look of the blog... We decided it was time for a new look. But Daddy's planning on keeping everyone up to date on what Emmie's up to, so keep checking back!

Here's a great picture Mommy took of Emmie. We're thinking of selling these gift baskets, but so far we've only made one, and it took quite a while to make, hehe...

Unfortunately, the only size basket we offer is petite!

You better hurry fast, as this basket has a tendency to eat itself :)

Book Review: Maurice the Hippo

Today Emmie is reviewing "Maurice the Hippo" by Claire and Maarten Bos. Mommy and Daddy picked out the book for its colorful pictures, but it's also got some "high"-larious writing. Here's Emmie's review:

Title: Maurice the Hippo

Rating: / 5

About the book:

The story of "Maurice the Hippo" is a moving depiction of the oppressive racial discrimination that flourished in the early years of the United States, laying the foundation for the intense hatred between the Northern industrial states and the Southern agricultural states, which relied heavily on slavery for cheap labor. Just kidding! "Maurice the Hippo" is about, well, a hippo named Maurice. I'm not actually sure what else it's about, as the writing is a little crazy. Take this passage for example: "Maurice tries a wiggly wig-prickly, tickly, thingumajig." If you can make sense of that, please let me know! But at least the words are fun to listen to.
"I highly recommend the corners, as they are particularly tasty!"

"That's a big, polka-dot, hippo butt!"
Conclusion: This book was both tasty and fun to look at, so I highly recommend it to you. I also recommend you try a "pompom custard cake", whatever that is...

Jump-a-roo

We decided to take a trip to good ol' Babies '(backwards R)' Us last weekend, just to see what they had, and we ended up getting Emmie a Jump-a-roo. I think she's a bit on the small side to use it, but she's been trying to stand up with her legs, so it was either this or letting her fall on her face, hehe... She seems to like it so far, but we haven't left her in it for too long yet. Not so much because she tires, but mostly because the sound effects get a bit annoying after a while. Here are some jumpy pics:

As you can see, Emmie's still a bit on the small side for the jumper...

And here Daddy thought he'd never use that Con Law book again... Yay for those lengthy opinions!

Here's a better shot of the master control panel... I think this thing has more moving parts than the shuttle cockpit!

Haiku Fun

Mommy had a thought...
"Make me a blog in Haiku!"
Here is my best shot:
Emmie on Daddy,
trying to look at Mommy.
Mountain-climbing babe.

Look out the window,
what do you think it could be?
Flying hot pink bird!

Time for shots again :(

Emmie turned 4 months old last week, whichunfortunately brings another round of immunization shots. To make matters worse, Mommy had to go alone with Emmie, since Daddy had to work. Emmie tried her best to take it like a champ, but even the best have to cry sometimes. She's now riding a rollercoaster of emotions, depending on the status of her latest Infant Tylenol dose. For those of you keeping score at home, Emmie now weighs 12.15 pounds (putting her in the 30th percentile), and she's 25 inches long (or is it tall?), putting her in the 73rd percentile.

Here's Emmie showing off one of her war wounds... her other leg has a matching Daffy Duck band-aid as well.

Here's Emmie zonked out in her swing... sometimes sleep really is the best medicine!

A Walk to the Park

We took a trip today to our nearby playground, so that Emmie could enjoy the cool breeze (hence the cardigan in the following pictures). She really enjoyed watching Mommy swing on the swing, and even gave us a few belly laughs! Unfortunately, the sun started to get a bit brighter, and the wind got a little less cool, so we had to leave before too long. Here are a couple of pictures capturing some of the fun:

Here's Emmie, trying her best to fill up the main part of the stroller... She enjoyed it well enough, but I think she needs a little more neck strength for it to really work - all she could look at was the sky!

Here's Daddy and Emmie, enjoying the exquisitely carved park bench... I assure you that the other benches are made from the finest mahogany. It looks like both Emmie and Daddy have some receding hairline issues... at least Emmie's bound to grow some more hair, hehe.

Picking a winner...

Sometimes Emmie's fingers end up in the wrong places, and sometimes the camera happens to be nearby at the right moment:

Aah... How great it is to have such good embarrassing material already!

Miss McGrabs-a-lot

Emmie has started to master the grabbing skill, meaning that she grabs anything that comes within her mighty 8" armspan... Once she's latched on to something, she invariably tries to pull it towards her mouth. She often ends up off-target, hitting her nose, eye or chin, but after a few tries manages to hit the bullseye.
Here's poor little Emmie, forced to fend for herself in the neglectful arms of Daddy... Luckily a stray bottle ventured nearby and was quickly snatched up.
